Thegenesthatencodetheethylenebiosynthesisenzyme1‐aminocyclopropane‐1‐carboxylateoxidase(ACO)arethoughttobeinvolvedinflowersenescence.Hence,weinvestigatedwhetherthetranscriptlevelsofPhACOgenes(PhACO1,PhACO3,andPhACO4)inPetuniacv.MirageRoseareassociatedwithethyleneproductionatdifferentfloweringstages.Hightranscriptlevelsweredetectedinthelatefloweringstageandlinkedtohighethylenelevels.PhACO1wassubsequentlyeditedusingtheCRISPR/Cas9systemanditsroleinethyleneproductionwasinvestigated.PhACO1‐editedT0mutantlines,regardlessofmutanttype(homozygousormonoallelic),exhibitedsignificantlyreducedethyleneproductionandenhancedflowerlongevity
